When The Children Get Together, a novel

Picture
Do you remember your first crush? Do you remember your time? Do you remember your first best friend? Do you remember sharing your first secret? Do you remember the first time that you went cruising? Do you remember the first time that you went to the club? When the Children get Together will take you down memory lane as you enter the world of Melvin James, from rural West Tennessee.  When the Children Get Together takes us  all back to a time gone by yet oddly familiar.
Smith captures the essence of young African American men who bound in brotherhood and learned how to nurture friendship! Take a journey with Smith as he takes you to a time prior to the twenty-first century. Experience the joy of friendship and even the agony of loss as Southern culture comes to life on the pages of When the Children Ge Together.

Reviews:
This is an absolutely adorable tale of an African-American teen brat-pack, their   trials, dreams, disappointments, self-realizations and successes. Beginning  with  their middle school friendship, Smith manages to give each character a  distinct  personality and unquestionable maturity level, while still retaining  the naivety  needed to make for believable characters. The meticulously placed humor will  make you laugh aloud and the dramatic reality of its lowest moments  will bring  you to tears. This behind the scenes peek into the private lives of teens in the  rural south is both refreshing and eye opening. - Caesar Brunswick -

Smith captured the essence of the rural south in a single novel. "When The Children Get Together" keeps the reader flipping pages as the characters come to  life with each page. Smith proves to be one of the greatest writers of this particular genre that has come on the scene. If one has not read or obtained a copy of this novel, you have missed one of the greatest opportunities of a lifetime.
